What GLP-1 is.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 is the gut hormone that tells the body food has arrived — released within minutes of a meal, it prompts glucose-dependent insulin secretion and satiety signalling, then vanishes almost immediately as enzymes cut it apart. Our GLP-1 is a long-acting synthetic analogue of that hormone: the same receptor, engineered persistence.

Two modifications do the work. A substitution near the N-terminus blocks the DPP-4 enzyme that destroys native GLP-1, and a fatty-diacid chain partway down the peptide binds serum albumin, turning a two-minute hormone into a compound that stays active for days. This architecture made the GLP-1 class the most-studied peptide family in metabolic science.

Where the research points.

GLP-1 is the reference molecule of incretin research. It anchors receptor-binding and internalization assays, glucose-stimulated insulin-secretion work in islet preparations, satiety and food-intake models in rodents, and an enormous comparative literature — when a new incretin design is published, this is the baseline it's measured against.

That maturity is the practical appeal: the receptor pharmacology is thoroughly characterized, assay protocols are published in detail, and results slot into a decades-deep body of work. When a metabolic study needs a known quantity, this is usually it.

No. GLP-1 is supplied strictly for laboratory research. It is not for human or veterinary use, and every order requires agreement to our research-use policy.

No — it's a long-acting analogue. Native GLP-1(7-36) is destroyed by DPP-4 within minutes, which makes it impractical for most study designs. This analogue keeps the receptor pharmacology while resisting that breakdown, which is exactly why the class dominates the literature.

Because everything about it is known. Its receptor kinetics, its downstream signalling and its behaviour in standard models are documented across thousands of papers, so it serves as the fixed point against which newer single-, dual- and triple-receptor compounds are compared.
