What NAD+ is.

NAD+ is not a peptide — it's a coenzyme, and one of the oldest molecules in biology. Every living cell uses it in two distinct ways: as a redox carrier, shuttling electrons through the reactions that turn food into ATP, and as a consumable substrate that entire enzyme families — sirtuins, PARPs, CD38 — burn through to do their work.

That second role is the modern story. Because those enzymes destroy NAD+ as they act, cellular levels are a genuine resource under constant demand — and measured levels decline substantially with age across tissues, one of the more robust observations in aging biology.

Where the research points.

NAD+ sits at the center of contemporary aging research: sirtuin-pathway studies, mitochondrial-function assays, DNA-repair work through PARP activity, and the broad program of understanding — and experimentally manipulating — age-related NAD+ decline. Deplete it, restore it, or trace its synthesis and salvage pathways, and you touch most of cellular energy metabolism.

It's equally a bench staple in the plainest sense: countless enzymatic assays use NAD+/NADH interconversion as their readout, making it one of the most consumed reagents in biochemistry.

No. NAD+ is supplied strictly for laboratory research. It is not for human or veterinary use, and every order requires agreement to our research-use policy.

The leading explanation in the literature is a supply-demand imbalance: consumption rises — notably through CD38 and PARP activation — while salvage-pathway synthesis fails to keep pace. Untangling which side dominates in which tissue is an active research front.

Oxidation state. NAD+ is the electron-accepting form, NADH the electron-carrying form; metabolism cycles constantly between them. The NAD+/NADH ratio is itself a widely used readout of a cell's redox state.
