KPV is the three-amino-acid tail of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone: lysine, proline, valine — residues 11 through 13 of the parent hormone. It's the smallest compound in our recovery line, and one of the more elegant stories in peptide research: most of α-MSH's anti-inflammatory signal survives in this tiny fragment, while the pigmentation activity does not.
That separation is what makes KPV scientifically useful. With the melanocortin-receptor pigment signalling stripped away, researchers can study the anti-inflammatory arm on its own.
The core literature is gut inflammation: colitis models and intestinal epithelial cell studies, where KPV has been reported to enter cells via the PepT1 transporter and dampen NF-κB-driven inflammatory signalling. Immune-cell work — macrophage and T-cell culture — extends the same question to other tissues.
Because it's so small, KPV also serves as a model compound for peptide-transport research itself: how short peptides cross epithelial barriers is a field of its own, and KPV is one of its standard probes.

The literature says essentially no — pigmentation runs through melanocortin-receptor activation, which requires the core pharmacophore KPV lacks. The fragment retains the anti-inflammatory signalling of the parent hormone without the melanogenic activity, which is exactly why researchers isolate it.
Because of how it travels. KPV is small enough to be carried into intestinal epithelial cells by the PepT1 transporter, which is highly expressed in the gut — putting the peptide exactly where inflammation-signalling studies want it.
